In the fall of 1997, Professor William B. Gartner (Bill) came to Stockholm to give the first ever Estrad lecture. Now, 20 years later, he joins us once again to talk about what has happened in entrepreneurship scholarship and practice since then. Professor Gartner will list his top 10 lessons learned from 20 years of research. All with practical relevance for entrepreneurs. He will cover topics such as:
• What entrepreneurs can do to increase their chances of success
• Why the rates of entrepreneurship are declining in the U.S.
• How and why financial and human capital make a significant difference in success at starting and growing businesses

William B. Gartner is the Bertarelli Foundation Distinguished Professor of Family Entrepreneurship at Babson College. He is also a visiting professor of entrepreneurship at Linnaeus University in Växjö, Sweden. He has served in various academic positions at the University of Virginia, Georgetown University, the University of Southern California, Clemson University, San Francisco State University, ESSEC in Paris, and the Copenhagen Business School.
Professor Gartner is the 2005 winner of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research for outstanding contributions to the research field. His book “Entrepreneurship as Organizing: Selected Papers of William B. Gartner” was recently published in a paperback edition by Edward Elgar. His current scholarship focuses on a variety of topics: entrepreneurial behavior, the social construction of the future, value creation and appropriation, possibility and failure, “translating entrepreneurship” across cultures and countries, the poetics of exchange, and the demographics of family entrepreneurship. Professor Gartner is one of the most referenced entrepreneurship professors in the world with more than 25.000 citations at Google Scholar. Since 1997 he has served as an international advisor to ESBRI.
