Based on research on dynamic regions across the United States which have been successful in growing new clusters of science based companies and large numbers of new high wage jobs, this presentation will discuss some of the critical factors which appear to be associated with these outcomes.
Entrepreneurial science based companies are based on superb intellectual capital, access to a web of appropriate business and management support systems, ”smart” venture capital, innovative approaches to partnering with established multi-national firms and a highly collaborative and socially networked culture. Walshok and her team have looked at this dynamic in California, Texas, Indiana and Pennsylvania to date. The presentation will also speculate on the possible implications of this work in the Swedish context.
