Bio Jonathan Levie

Dr Jonathan Levie is on the faculty of the Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, where he was Director from 2000 to 2005. He was on sabbatical from July 2005 to April 2006, spending 6 months at IMD International, Lausanne, Switzerland.

Before joining the University of Strathclyde he was Research Fellow at the London Business School, Visiting Research Fellow and Part-Time Lecturer in Management at Babson College, Wellesley, Massachusetts, EC Research Fellow at INSEAD, France, and College Lecturer at University College, Cork, Ireland. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of London (London Business School) and a B.Sc. (Natural Sciences) and M.Sc. (Management) from the National University of Ireland.

Jonathan has been researching and teaching entrepreneurship for 25 years and has managed both new and growing firms. His current research interests include founder resources and new venture survivability, entrepreneurial management and performance, and strategic value creation and exit. He has devised and taught many courses at undergraduate, masters and executive education level and supervised PhD students through to successful completion. He co-directed the 2004 Babson Kauffman Entrepreneurship Research Conference in Glasgow, Scotland.

Though trained in the case method of teaching, he devised an experiential New Venture Course for MBA students in 2002 based on a technique developed by software entrepreneur Sharon Ballard. This course is now taught successfully by three other faculty on three different Masters programmes in Strathclyde. He is a director of Cumbrae Community Development Company, a social enterprise that recently raised 5 million pounds sterling in public money to regenerate the Scottish island community where he lives.———–
