Om föreläsningen säger Scott Shane: ”Technology transfer and start-up activities to commercialize universities has exploded in the United States in recent years. However, we know little about the factors that facilitate this activity or account for the success at this activity. Based on a quantitative analysis of technology transfer activity from MIT from 1980-1996, a comparison of technology transfer activity from 120 U.S. universities from 1993-1998, and in depth interviews with MIT inventors and technology transfer officers, I provide some important answers to the following questions:
– Why has university technology become an important source of technological ideas for new companies?
– What makes some universities generate more start-ups than others?
– What factors enhanced MIT start-up activity over time?
– What are the key factors enhancing the performance of university start-up companies?”
