Disseminating research on innovation, entrepreneurship and small businesses

Universities, patents and innovation

- what's in it for the entrepreneurs?

Date:
Lecturers: Professor Maureen McKelvey, University of Gothenburg

About the lecture:

Great hope is placed in the commercialization of research and academic entrepreneurship. Many people talk about the US and success stories like MIT and Stanford. In the same breath, it is often complained that we are bad at it here in Sweden. Is this really true?

Maureen McKelvey’s research shows that we may not be so bad after all. Swedish researchers are generally positive about commercialization, and are also reasonably successful in their commercialization attempts. Support systems at universities help, but it is also very much up to the researchers as individuals. Politicians and policy makers who want to promote academic entrepreneurship need to take both sides into account.

During the lecture, Maureen McKelvey will highlight issues such as:
How important are universities for innovation and entrepreneurship?
How can businesses benefit from university research?
What do we know about patents from academia?
What does the Swedish teacher exemption mean for academic entrepreneurship?

Please note that the lecture will be held in English!
