Disseminating research on innovation, entrepreneurship and small businesses

Date:
Lecturers: Professor Amar Bhidé, Tufts University, USA

About the lecture:

Amar Bhidé will base the lecture on his two latest books, “The Venturesome Economy” and “A Call for Judgment”.

In “The Venturesome Economy”, Amar Bhidé argues that what matters is that countries have the ability to exploit new knowledge. Where the knowledge is produced is irrelevant. So he doesn’t think we need to worry too much about some countries breaking new ground in research and development. One way to capture the knowledge produced around the world is through ‘risk-taking consumption’: individuals and businesses adopting new technologies and innovations at an early stage.

In the aftermath of the financial crisis, a lot of questions have been raised about the sustainability of our economic system. In ‘A Call for Judgment’, Amar Bhidé asks questions like: Has capitalism failed? Does the system need to be reformed? He offers a framework for how we can correct the imbalance that now exists between the performance-driven financial sector and the innovation-driven “real” economy.

Please note that the lecture will be held in English!
